Rainbow choo choo train cake...

This is yet another breakthrough for Jembakes with 3D cakes after the pirates ship!

http://jembakes.blogspot.sg/2013/11/wayne-is-5.html

Sherlyn, my er jie's colleague wanted to order a rainbow train for her son's Caleb's birthday and this is yet another challenge for me on sculpting 3D cakes but I gladly took up the challenge with the trust that Sherlyn placed on me.

So I baked a 10" round choc fudge cake and started cutting them into pieces and fixing them up together to form a train shape.

I know that at this stage it looks really unappetizing but at least the train form is there after much fixing up. So the next step is to wrap the train up with fondant and this is quite a headache as it is not a 2D shape where I can wrap it up in one go and I have not tried to wrap an abnormal shape like this before (previously for the pirate ship I actually cut up the fondant into rectangular sheets like wooden planks and fixed it onto the cake one by one). So for this, I tried to cover it up in two portions but it was quite untidy and I have to do a lot of cosmetic changes to it to cover up the flaws. LOL.

The train head.
The final product.
Sherlyn specifically wanted a rainbow track as her son's recent craze is on rainbow. I'm really pleased with the final product where the train looks really bright and colourful. Sherlyn says Caleb loves the rainbow choo choo train! Check out Caleb with the cake below:

I'm so glad they love the cake and hope Caleb had a bright and happy 3rd birthday!

For a pair of drinking buddies...

This is a special order for a pair of my friends whose birthdays are just a day apart and therefore we decided to give them a surprise birthday celebration. As they got to know each other through drinking together, I decided to make a beer with the two of them on it to signify that they are drinking buddies. LOL.

This is the 3rd beer mug cake that I have made so I'm getting better at it now. And it is so coincidental that their initials ended up as "WXYZ". LOL.

Check out the surprise birthday celebration below:

Christmas cake...

Christmas is the season that I loved most throughout the year and it's coming again! And this year I'm really efficient and am done with all the christmas shopping for the gift exchanges. LOL. Enough of the sidetracking and my first order for christmas cake came from Cherie from LTA whereby they are having a small celebration in the office and would like to order a christmas cake.

Really love the end results and the christmasy feel to it with the addition of the christmas element toppers. Hope they had a lovely christmas celebration!

Polka dots cake and cupcakes set...

An order from Huey who is having a first month celebration for her daughter Gwyneth. This is my first time doing an order for first month celebration (mostly had orders for first year celebration instead). LOL. So she's having a polka dots party for her daughter and requested the cake to be in pastel coloured polka dots theme. She also wanted mini cupcakes to go round the two-tier cake as she is having quite a big crowd for the party.

I thought the cake looks quite plain without something on the top tier so I placed some colourful balloon toppers on it.

When I delivered the cake to the party, it was housed at a very warm and cosy condo's clubhouse and they had pastel coloured polka dots balloons tied up along the stairs as well. I hope the cake goes well with the polka dots theme and they had a fun party!

Personalized thank you cupcakes...

This is another order from Bin Li where she has previously order a set of drummers cupcakes. Check it out below if you have not:

http://jembakes.blogspot.sg/2013/09/drum-cupcakes.html

So this time round she wanted to give cupcakes to her colleagues to thank them and she wanted female and male faced cupcakes with a thank you tag on it. This is quite a neat and easy order and here's the end result.

Hope her colleagues like it!

Jake and the Neverland pirates cake...

An order from Cherish again and this time round she wanted to order a Jake and the Neverland pirates cake for her 4 yrs old son, Josh. She previously ordered a minion cake for her husband's birthday.

http://jembakes.blogspot.sg/2013/11/2d-minion-cake-agan.html

Cherish is actually my elder sis's colleague and so when she saw the pirates cake that I did for Wayne, she wanted one for her son who loves Jake and the Neverland pirates too. So I borrowed the toppers from my sis and used it on the cake for Cherish. But as Cherish wanted a small cake for their small family celebration, I did not make a pirate ship like the one I did for Wayne. Check it out below if you have not.

http://jembakes.blogspot.sg/2013/11/wayne-is-5.html

This is another easy cake (working with toppers) and so I made the cake that looks like the sea with an island on it and some treasure hunting elements.

Happy 4th Birthday Josh!!

Luggage cake...

This is an order from Edmund who wanted to order a red luggage cake for Adrian's birthday. It seems like a very interesting theme therefore I readily took up the challenge. And indeed, it was really fun making the luggage and I can't wait to go on my holiday too!

I added some details on the luggage such as the luggage tag with the name on it, a notebook, and a "I love SG" sign to show that this is a Singaporean's luggage. LOL. Really like the end results and the cake looks really nice and neat. Hope Adrian likes the cake and enjoy his holiday trip! LOL.

Minion cake yet again!

Another minion cake order and this time it's from Regine who want to order the cake for her 6 yrs old boy, Declan. This is another easy cake (due to the fact that I've done minion theme countless time). LOL.

I've actually added some disco dust to make the cake sparkles but it cannot be seen very well through the picture. Hope Declan had an awesome 6th birthday!

Surprise birthday cake for sis and her friends gathering...

This is a last min cake for sis who is actually meeting her friends from JC for 11 years for a steamboat gathering. She wanted to surprise her teacher and friend who is having their birthday this month with a small birthday celebration so she wanted a cake for them. And her theme in mind would be long-time girl friends so I made a few girls sitting on the cake holding hands.

The birthday girls really had a great surprise! Check out the surprise party below:

The birthday girls!

Happy birthday Ms Mak and Synn Ying!

Instagram cake...

Jeremy's friend Vivien wanted to order an Instagram cake and therefore being a nice friend, Jeremy referred Jembakes to her! Thanks Jeremy! So I gladly took up the challenge as it seems like a fun and interesting one. I started making the cake based on the Instagram logo.

This is actually quite easy to do and I think it turns out well. Jembakes is on Instagram as well and do follow us at iluvjembakes. LOL. Hope Vivien likes it!

2D Minion cake and cupcakes set...

I really have to hand it off to the despicable me craze and all thanks to it, I have a roaring business! LOL. Another order for minion cake and this time round is an order from Kireio for her son Cayvier's 1st birthday. She wanted both the cake and the cupcakes to be in 2D form which is a simple and neat design which I have done countless times but they still look really cute together.

When I delivered the cake over they were setting up the party and putting up the minions pictures and Kireio is even wearing a minion shirt. LOL. Hope they had a fun minions party!

Lightning Mcqueen and Mater cake...

This is another Cars cake and a referral from Cindy who previously ordered a Cars cake as well. Check her cake below if you have not:

http://jembakes.blogspot.sg/2013/11/ninja-turtle-cake-lightning-mcqueen.html

So her friend, Sheryl, wanted a Lightning Mcqueen cake for her son, Ranen's 3rd birthday celebration in school and since she ordered a bigger cake, I placed Mater on the cake as well. I found this cars toppers at Hanoi as well and they are really cheap and nice! LOL.

Hope Ranen had a blast at his birthday party!

2D minion cake agan!

This time round Cherish wanted to order a simple 2D cake for her husband Gerald's birthday and wanted me to put a letter "G" on the pocket of the overalls of the minion. This is the 3rd 2D minion cake that I have done and therefore the cake making process was fast.

Hope Gerald had a pleasant surprise and happy birthday!

Pooh cake for dear Wayne!

This dear prince of mine is really special and loved by all of us. For his birthday this year, his parents booked a room in hard rock hotel and they had a fun 3D2N staycation over the weekends. And as usual, the rest of us will not want to miss celebrating his birthday with him. So, we decided to make a cake for him and bring it over to the hotel to give him a surprise. And my mummy suggested a pooh cake for him as he likes to watch a "pooh and friends" dvd (he have watched it umpteen times and whenever we ask him to choose a dvd to watch, he will still choose that!) LOL. So, I made a pooh cake for him with a pooh and tigger topper.

This cake is really fast and easy to make. I just add on some details such as little flowers, bee, honey pot and the little pond. And as the pooh cake topper cannot stand on its own, I placed the legs into brown fondant and made it look like it is stucked in the mud. LOL. And guess what, Wayne interpreted everything on the cake correctly! He could see that pooh is "stucked in the mud", there is a pond with some rocks at the side, etc. I feel so happy that my work is acknowledged. LOL.

So here's some picture of our surprise party:

Happy Birthday Wayne!

Rainbow Care Bear cake...

This is an order from Eve who wanted a two-tier care bear cake for her daughter Jeraine's 1st birthday. She sent me a picture of how she wanted the cake to look like - a rainbow at the side and marshmallows at the bottom. The cake looks really sweet and lovely. She also requested for a little girl to sit at the top of the cake.

So I tried to meet all her requirements. I ordered the care bear figurines online and place them on the cake and also had the words in rainbow colour. I also made a little girl sitting on the top of the cake and I think she looks really cute on top. I also placed marshmallows on the bottom, surrounding the cake.

The difficult part is actually the rainbow at the side where I was thinking what kind of material should I use to make the rainbow which can stand on its own and is able to bend nicely. I did not want to use gumpaste as I'm worried the structure will not be stable and may collapse. Thanks to my brilliant mummy who is full of idea, she thought of using cardboard and cut the sides at regular interval and then fold them in and tadah, it bends nicely! I then covered it with foil and then rainbow coloured fondant and then my rainbow is done!

I'm quite pleased with this cake as it is quite neat and looks very lovely. Thanks Eve for contributing her ideas and hope Jeraine had an awesome party!

Captain America cake and cupcakes set...

This is an order from Lynn for her son's Xavi 1st birthday. They are having an avengers party and she wanted a Captain America cake. I'm not an avengers fan and have not watched the movie before and therefore I do not know how Captain America looks like. And as usual, google does the trick. So I started searching for the Captain America cake topper online but I actually found it in a shopping mall while I was on a random day trip to JB. LOL.

The cake is quite simple but again, I had a hard time making the topper stand on the cake as it cannot stand on its own. So I had to use black fondant to secure its legs on the cake and try to make it seems like it is standing on the rock. Does it look like it?

For the cupcakes, I ordered the edible shield image online which is easy to use whereby I just have to cut and paste it on the cupcakes.

Hope the avengers party went well!

Pooh and piglet cake...

Flora wanted a simple and pastel coloured pooh bear and piglet cake for her daughter's 1st birthday. Had a hard time finding a suitable cake topper as she wanted the baby pooh series one. But in the end I could not find it so we have to make do with the normal pooh topper.

The topper came in a set with eeyore and tigger but as Flora specified that she wanted a simple cake and did not want the cake to be too crowded, I placed just the pooh bear and piglet on the cake.

She also specify that she wanted the bees and honey pots as well so I placed a few on the cake and try to make it look as simple as possible. However, the toppers could not stand on its own so I made 2 big honey pots for them to stand on it. And I also found some wire to hold the bees so that they look like they are "buzzing" around. LOL.

Hope the cake did look simple enough and the party went well!

Mixture of minions cupcakes...

As I have mentioned, the demand for minions cake and cupcakes is really high and this time round, Jeremy wanted to order a set of minions cupcakes with a mixture of 2D and 3D ones. He is really very supportive and have previously ordered two cakes from me on different occasions as well. So here's the set of minions cupcakes.

Got quite bored with the repetitive designs so this time round I added the blue shirt on the 2D cupcakes and I think it looks cuter than the ones without it! LOL.

Jeremy said his friends like them and sent me a picture of one of the kid with the cupcakes.

So cute!
Check out his other orders below if you have not:

Another set of hellokitty cupcakes...

If I were to say that minions is the no.1 in popularity, hellokitty will definitely be the 2nd! Received another order for hellokitty cupcakes from Wendy, my ex hall roomie, where she wanted to order the cupcakes for her friend, Isabel. I think I'm really comfortable with making hellokitty cupcakes right now and the cupcakes turned out well.

Hope Isabel likes them!

Wayne is 5!

How time flies and my nephew is turning 5 this year! He has really grown so much over the years and it is really amazing how kids learn and grow so fast (which also means I'm aging while he grows). LOL. Anyway, he is having a pirates theme party this year in his school as he loves to watch Jake and the neverland pirates (I do watch with him sometimes). His ever so loving mummy went to buy the figurines to be placed on the cake and his ever so lovely xiao yi (which is me) is of course tasked to make the birthday cake once again.

This time round I wanted to try my hands on cake sculpting and to make a pirate ship for the cake which is different from the usual round or square cakes that I normally make. But still, I started off by baking a round 10" cake and then I cut out the shape of a ship and assemble bits and pieces of the cake together. It was quite fun actually and it was not as difficult as I thought it would be.

My ship-making in progress.
After piecing them together I started covering the ship with buttercream icing to "stick" the ship structure together and then lastly covering it with fondant. Since the ship is made by wooden planks, I covered my pirate ship by cutting out brown strips of fondant and pasting it one by one like how wooden planks would look like. I also made some pirate cupcakes around the cake which will be easier to distribute to the kids during the party. I wonder how are the teachers going to cut the pirate ship cake. LOL.

The final product.
This is really a breakthrough for me and I'm really happy with the final result. Hope to try out more cake sculpting designs next time!

Check out Wayne's birthday party below:

Happy birthday Wayne!

The happy family!

Wayne and his classmates.

The kids enjoying the cupcakes.
Happy 5th birthday my dear boy! You have grown up well! LOL.

Mario cupcakes...

This is an order from Joann to celebrate her son's 1st birthday. She said her son Xander has a yoshi dragon plushy and she wanted a cake with the dragon on it. As yoshi dragon is part of the mario game (I googled), so I suggested mario theme cupcakes to go with the cake. However, her mother ordered a cake for her from elsewhere and therefore she stick with the order of 80 cupcakes only. The designs are quite easy and simple (I did play mario before and do know that there are coins to collect, mushroom to eat to grow bigger, and flowers that will cost me my live). LOL.

Hope the cupcakes will go well with the cake her mother ordered! Happy Birthday Xander!

Family and garden theme cupcakes...

Another order from Evonne! Really very grateful for her support and this time round she wanted to order a set of family figurine + garden theme cupcakes for her friend's birthday. She sent me her friend's family photo which also includes their maid who they treat as a family as well. So here goes the cupcakes.

Really like the garden theme with the bees and beetles which looks really cute. LOL. Hope her friend and family likes them too!

Check out her other orders below if you have not:

Another present cake...

Here's another present cake for my team mate's birthday! As I do not know what she likes I thought a present cake will be nice and suitable for the occasion.

The cake is really simple and easy to make. And I have to say I'm getting better at making bows now and it looks much neater. LOL. Specifically likes the colour combination - teal base + pastel pink with gold pearl dust. Check out the birthday gal with the cake below.

Happy Birthday Weng Kuck!
