Maserati car cake...

New challenge at the start of the year! This is an order from Ting Ting, my Er Jie's uni friend who wanted to order a Maserati car cake for her husband who drives a Maserati. She has saw the Audi car cake that I did for my BIL on my sis's FB and therefore wants to order a Maserati car cake from me. Thanks for putting so much trust in me! Check out the Audi car cake below.

http://jembakes.blogspot.sg/2015/11/3d-car-cake-for-my-bil.html

She sent me her husband's car photo and therefore I started on my cake sculpting first. Like the Audi car cake, we baked 2 rectangle cake and stacked them together for sculpting. However, as Maserati is supposed to be a sports car which is very sleek, I tried to sculpt it in that way. But my rectangle mould is too short and therefore the front is not long enough. Think I have to get a longer rectangle mould for baking car cakes so that my sculpting is not as restricted in terms of the length. LOL. Nevertheless, I worked within the scope and tried to make the car to scale.

The cake sculpting is done. At this point, at least it looks like a car. First stage passed.

The most important part of the car : the logo! I think there is some improvement from the previous 3D car that I've made in terms of the width which I made it less wide this time round. However, there is still room for improvement in terms of the length of the car. And maybe next time I will want to try to paint the windows black instead of pasting black fondant.

Thanks Ting Ting for the order and the nice and encouraging comments. Glad your family love it and Happy birthday to Bernard!

Flower cake for my Da Jie's birthday!

February is a busy month for me as 3 of our family members are born in the month and 2 days after Ulyss' birthday, it's her mother and that is my Da Jie's birthday! This time round we had a belated birthday celebration for her as I was away in Bkk for vacation during the mother and daughter's birthday period (hence I'm not able to do another cake for Ulyss' birthday party at a indoor playground and they ordered a Princess Sofia ice-cream cake in the end).

As mentioned in my start of the year post, my resolution this year is to start on flower decorations and I have bought a flower modelling kit. After 2 months, I finally got my hands on it and opened the kit. LOL. The flowers are really very nice but just reading the instruction booklet with some pictures at the side, it is a bit hard to understand without some practical demonstration. And some of the flowers need drying overnight. Therefore, I settled on a flower that looks the simplest for a start.

The one on the left was the first one I did, the one on the right, having more experience, looks better. However, it does not really look like what was on the picture (shall not post it here for comparison) LOL. So, I guess there is still room for improvements, or maybe I should just go for a lesson on flower making. Shall keep my options open. Nevertheless, it still looks good on its own and at least it looks like flowers. LOL.

Happy Birthday to my dearest Da Jie! We had dinner at Buffet Town at Raffles City which is also a treat from Er Jie for her bonus payout! Yummy oysters and salmon all thanks to Er Jie! You can eat it next year! LOL.
Me with the flowers after it was taken off the cake. It still looks good. LOL.

Golf ball cake...

This is an order from Wai Fong and is actually gotten from my parents where they went to her maid agency to hire a maid and my dad was showing her the birthday cake that I did for his 62nd birthday. Check out the cake that I did for my daddy below.

http://jembakes.blogspot.sg/2014/09/daddys-62nd-birthday.html

But Wai Fong only wanted the golf ball on the top tier therefore we just baked a chocolate based golf ball cake for her using 2 semi circle cake pan. The ball turns out quite round and it looks just like a golf ball.

Hope Francis likes the cake! Happy 57th Birthday!

4 little pigs cake...

This is an order from Rachel who wanted 4 pigs on a cake. So I suggested having the 4 pigs in a farm and this is quite an easy cake and the pigs turn out quite cute (although a bit dirty from the mud). LOL.

Happy Birthday Sara! Hope you like the pigs!

Princess Ulyss turns 4!

It's the time of the year again! It's always a headache for the mummy and her daughter to settle on a theme for the little girl's birthday party every year especially so when her number of favourite characters keep growing. So this year, they settled on Rapunzel theme for the school's party (initially the girl wanted tinker bell). Actually, her 1st birthday party was also done in Rapunzel theme and she was actually the hairless Rapunzel at that time. LOL. Check out her 1st birthday party below.

http://jembakes.blogspot.sg/2013/07/princess-ulysss-1st-birthday_20.html

At that time the two-tier princess cake was actually a dummy cake as I was still new to cake decorating and constructing a two-tier cake. 3 years have passed and I have done a few castle cake over the time and therefore this time round I am more confident to take up the challenge.

However, to make things easy and more stable, I still bought some styrofoam cones and cylinders to create the castle and therefore only the base is made of a 6"cake.

This is one of the sweetest castle that I have made. Totally love the sweet pastel colour combination. Rapunzel topper is provided by the birthday girl herself (one of her toy). I also ordered some Rapunzel icing image to paste on the cupcakes.

Happy Birthday Ulyss! Finally a Rapunzel with hair!
Look at how big the little girl is now. She is a big Jie Jie in school!
Happy Birthday my dear girl! It is amazing to see how you have grown up to be so active and different from how your brother is, showing us that each have their own personalities and are unique in their own ways. Thanks for bringing us so much laughter and happiness and Xiao yi wishes that you continue to grow up strong and healthy! I'm glad that you always enjoy the cakes that I do and I hope I can continue to make your birthday cakes till you are tired of it! LOL!

Maisy cake...

An order from my Da Jie's long time friend, Diana, for her son Dylan's birthday party in school. She wanted a Maisy cake for the party. Maisy is a popular character of a story book and it looks like a mouse. She wanted Maisy and her favourite bear on the cake.

Therefore, I created a Maisy picnic cake with some picnic elements on it such as the picnic box, fruits, drinks, etc. And definitely not forgetting to bring along her favourite bear.

Diana said she loves the details on the cake which is all favourites of a 3 year old kid. Glad she likes it and Dylan had an enjoyable birthday party.

Happy Birthday Dylan!
Thanks Diana for the order!

Hellokitty cake and cupcakes set...

Another Hellokitty order and this time it is an order from Joanna who wanted to order a cake and cupcakes set for her friend's daughter, Avery's birthday. She wanted a design that was done before so this is an easy order for me.

I crafted the hellokitty faces free hand and by now I can say that I am really skillful in it and almost all of them looks similar. LOL.

Thanks Joanna for the order and hope Avery likes the cake! Happy 3rd Birthday!

Baby boy cake...

This is a simple cake order from Gay Hooi who wanted a baby boy cake for her son's 1st mth celebration. I previously bought the alphabet bunting mould online but it is a bit small for big cakes. I finally have the chance to use it now and I think it is good for 6" cakes. I also added some baby elements such as milk bottle, toy blocks, etc.

Happy 1st mth Xavier! Grow up healthy and happy!

Doc Mcstuffins cake...

Another Doc Mcstuffins cake and this time round is an order from May Ee who previously ordered the Thomas train cake for her boy. Check out the cake below.

http://jembakes.blogspot.sg/2014/11/thomas-train-cake.html

This time round it is her girl, Hui En's 2nd birthday and therefore she wanted a Doc Mcstuffins cake for her. I ordered the toppers online and did some simple designs on the cake.

Happy birthday Hui En! Hope you like the cake!

Plane cake for my second BIL...

Happy Chinese New Year! This year, my second BIL, Ben's birthday falls near CNY and therefore we decided to have his birthday celebration and our reunion dinner together at home! As I have previously done a car cake for my first BIL who loves car and recently got a new car, so this time round I did a plane cake for my second BIL who loves plane! Check out the car cake that I have done below.

The last cake that I did for Ben was 3 years ago when I first started this whole cake business. Er Jie wanted a sushi cake to surprise him as he loves sushi. How time flies and he is now my BIL!

Initially I wanted to do a commercial plane but the plane needs to be very round in shape and I have baked a rectangular cake. Therefore, after searching for ideas online, I came up with the plane below which looks a bit like fighter plane. LOL.

I sliced off the front of the cake to make it look pointed. For the plane wings and the propeller, I used cardboard and wrapped it in fondant instead to ensure that it is stable enough and the wings will not break off. This is quite a stable structure in the end and it stayed neat and firm throughout. LOL.

Happy Birthday Ben! Hope you like the plane!

Happy Birthday BIL! Hope this new year brings greater joy and happiness in your life!
