Mcqueen and Mater cake...

Another Cars cake order from Sheryl. I have lost count on the number of Cars cake I did for Sheryl as she has ordered Cars cake for both her sons' birthday for almost 2-3 years. I think she has quite a collection of the Cars toy at home now. LOL. This time round is her elder son Ranen's birthday and she wanted a different design. So we both cracked our brain and finally come out with another design.

I hand crafted the Mater at the side with fondant and luckily it turns out quite well. This was a 10" cake and I was worried that the top would be too plain with only the sign and Mcqueen therefore I added some road elements to spice things up on the top of the cake.

Happy 5th Birthday Ranen!

Bookworm Wayne's 7th Birthday!

Time flies and another year has passed. This year Wayne turns 7 and is already in Primary 1. The little boy has to adapt to primary school life, buy his own food during recess time, learn spelling and do homework. Everything is new to him but his love for books remains. He goes to the school library to read during recess time and continues to read when he is back home. He is really a hardcore bookworm. But indeed, with so many books that he read, he is really good with his english vocabulary and knows a lot of words which I do not think that I would have known at his age now. He sometimes would amaze me with the big words that he used!

Check out the previous cakes that I have done for his birthday party since he was 4 years old!

So this year, to live up to his name, he requested for a book cake. LOL! I previously did an open book cake before and this time round I wanted to try something different. Therefore, I decided to do stacked up books instead with the subjects that he learnt in school as the book titles.

The books were covered individually and then stacked together. Luckily the cake was a firm cake and therefore it was easy to hold it up after covering it with fondant.

Wayne was around when I was making his cake and he was very excited to know what book titles are on it. However, when I was doing the chinese book, he wanted me to change it to other titles instead, thus showing his little interest in the subject. And indeed, his result in chinese language is the lowest among the 3 subjects. LOL.

Happy Birthday my dear boy! You have grown well and Xiao Yi is really glad that I can make you a birthday cake every year and that you liked them. My proudest and happiest moment whenever I see your eyes glow with excitement when you see the cake (whether it was because of the design or the fact that you are able to eat the fondant, maybe half-half) LOL. But nevertheless, you have brought so much joy into the house. I hope you will continue to read and love books and not forget the importance of learning. Grow in wisdom and be a polite and nice boy with integrity. Xiao yi loves you!

Mickey mouse cake...

Another order from Hui Zhen for her son Dayrius' 2nd birthday. She ordered a Pooh and friends cake for his 1st birthday last year. Check it out below!

http://jembakes.blogspot.sg/2014/11/pooh-and-friends-cake.html

This time round they are having a Mickey theme party and therefore she requested for a Mickey mouse cake.

After numerous experience with the mickey head and its ears, this time round I chose to use styrofoam as the head and the ears which is light and stable.

Happy Birthday Dayrius! Hope you like the cake!

The Simpsons cupcakes...

Another order from Rachel and this time round she wanted the Simpsons cupcakes for her husband's birthday. I have not watched or played the game before so I do not have any idea who are the characters in it. Luckily Rachel gave me the idea and I followed accordingly.

The happy family!

Happy Birthday!

Inside out cupcakes...

An interesting order from my Da Jie who wanted to give her colleagues some farewell cupcakes as she is moving on to another team. She wanted inside out cupcakes maybe it best represents the characters of her different colleagues. LOL. But having watched the movie, I really liked how the whole story goes and loves all the different characters in it.

So I crafted the face of all the different emotions! We have Fear, Anger, Disgust, Joy and Sadness!

It turned out better than I have imagined and we even have a guest appearance of BingBong! My sis brought home the leftovers and the kids were fighting for Bingbong, showing its popularity! LOL.

Who do u like best?

Avengers cake...

An order from Annemarie who wanted an Avengers cake for her son's theme birthday party. This is a simple cake where I ordered a 2D icing image with the picture that she provided me.

Happy Birthday Eoin!

3D car cake for my BIL!

It's my brother-in-law's birthday once again! I think the last birthday cake that I made for him is actually the first fondant cake that I did for my class (and it is actually just nice because it was near his birthday and so it was not really customized for him).

http://jembakes.blogspot.sg/2013/07/the-jembakes-journey-part-2.html

So this time round, I decided to make a customized cake just for him! And I decided to challenge myself in making a 3D car cake for him who loves car and recently got his new audi. So I youtubed and googled for tutorials on how to make a car cake and set my hands on doing it.

So I baked a rectangle cake and carve the cake into the shape of a car. I also made a dent at the bottom of the car on both sides to fit in the wheels later.

At this stage, at least it does looks like the shape of a car. 1st stage passed! The next part is to cover it with fondant and decorating it with the car details. So I included the audi logo, the car number plate, the headlights, the windscreen, etc.

And here is the final results which I am really satisfied with for my first attempt in 3D car!

Check out the happy and surprised bro-in-law who did not know that he is "eating up" his new car for his birthday!

Happy birthday Bro-in-law! Enjoy your ride in your new car!

Swimming cupcakes...

This is an order from Mrs Tay for her nephew who is part of a swimming club and he will be celebrating his birthday with his friends from the swimming club after their swimming practice. Therefore, she requested swimming cupcakes with a variation of the swim strokes on it. It was quite fun doing the cupcakes and I hope you are able to guess the strokes right!

Happy birthday Sherman! Hope you can swim like a fish!

Spaceship cake...

An order from my Da Jie for her friend Joanna's son. Her son Tyler loves spaceship and so requested for a spaceship cake.

The spaceship is made of inedible materials which are light and I wrapped them with aluminium foil and then fondant.

Hope Tyler had a wonderful time on space!

Ninja turtle cupcakes...

An order from Priscilla who previously ordered a set of shark cupcakes for her son's 5th birthday.

http://jembakes.blogspot.sg/2014/08/shark-cupcakes.html

This year, her son is 6 and he is asking for some Ninja turtle cupcakes!

Hope Darius likes the cupcakes and enjoyed his birthday party!
