Jembakes does charity at Citi food fair 2014!

Time flies and it's the time of the year again! Riding on the success of last year's cupcakes sales, this year I'm tasked to do the cupcakes again (tink I'm better known as the cupcake girl at work, LOL). Check out the last charity sale we did below.

http://jembakes.blogspot.sg/2013/08/jembakes-does-charity-again.html

So this year round I suggested different designs for the pre-order (partly because I'm tired of minions) and so I came up with the below two designs in line with the recent craze.

World cup cupcakes.

Frozen cupcakes.
Then my GMO head is very supportive and wanted to order a 100 cupcakes in boxes of 2 to distribute to all of us in GMO. It was real nice of him and I decided to work on this 100 cupcakes first and deliver it on a different day so that I will not need to prepare all the orders in a day. However, I thought that giving my colleagues frozen or world cup cupcakes are not very meaningful so I came up with another set of designs for them.

MDAS is the organization that we are helping.

Packaging in process.

So each colleague will get a set of "Citi" and "Thank you" cupcakes which is more meaningful in a way. LOL. And so I've cleared one hurdle with 100 cupcakes down (done in a total of 5hrs).

Next up is the preparing of the cupcakes for the other pre-orders and for actual day sale. This year I'm preparing to sell 50 cupcakes at the booth during lunch time and in addition to the pre-ordered cupcakes, I have 180 cupcakes to do in a day and boss had given me time off to "work from home" and prepare the cupcakes. LOL.

So I started working from 9am in the morning and thank god I have my mummy to bake the cupcakes for me while I do the decorating of the cupcakes.

All the pre-orders nicely packaged.
After I'm done with the pre-orders (which is almost half of the day gone), it's time to rack my brains on the designs for the cupcakes for sale at the booth. I decided on simpler designs (as I'm real tired) which most people will like. So I did hello kitty, frozen, pooh, heart, citi logo and some roses. And I'm so glad I found these nice plastic individual packaging while I was at the JB bake ware shop "Bakewell" searching for my icing image. These are really good and cheap and the cupcakes fit well and nicely in it.

Cupcakes all ready for sale!
And these cupcakes took me another half a day and I was literally working 9-6 at home to finish all these cupcakes ( a total of 180 pcs). Another achievement unlocked!

So the next day the cupcakes are ready for collection and sale!

Cupcakes at the booth!
Thanks to the generous and helpful colleagues at CBP the cupcakes were sold in an hour and the total donations we got for the pre-orders and sale is a total of $1300! Hope the people from MDAS can benefit from it!

Really feel good to have done a part for charity but these will not be possible without the following people :

Thanks Mummy for helping me to bake the 280 pcs of cupcakes. Without you I will have to spend much more time both baking and decorating the cupcakes. Thanks for helping me to source and buy the necessary ingredients and boxes and make things much easier for me. Thanks for relieving me of my workload!

Thanks Daddy for driving me to work and finding the big boxes for me to pack my cupcake boxes in and carrying the boxes of cupcakes for me!

Thanks bf, Rafael, for helping me to pack the 50 boxes of cupcakes and being the delivery man helping me to carry the boxes of cupcakes up to the office.

Thanks Er Jie for sacrificing her sleeping and rest time to help me pack the cupcakes into the boxes. Really appreciate it!

Thanks Er Jie's bf, Ben, for driving me into JB so that I can buy the icing image and the nice plastic packaging.

Thanks San yi for coming down to offer your helping hands and pack the cupcakes as well.

Without you guys I will not be able to finish this task alone! This is our combine effort for charity! Love you all!

3D Minion cake again!

This time round, my sec school friend Phildia approached me and she wanted to order a 3D minion cake for her brother's birthday. I did one before for my da jie's friend's birthday and it did not turn out very well as I was inexperienced back then. Check it out below if you have not.

http://jembakes.blogspot.sg/2013/07/despicable-me-minion-cake.html

Learning from the previous experience where the head of the minion was uneven due to the uneven rise of the cake, this time I placed a semi round cake on the top to create an even round head and the minion really looks much better now. LOL.

Check out the birthday boy with his cake below. Happy birthday Philemon!

Shark cupcakes...

This is an order from Priscilla who wants to order cupcakes for her son Darius' 5th birthday. She said that her son loves sharks so she wanted the cupcakes to be shark themed. It's quite an easy theme where I placed some shark fin, shark head and the float on the cupcakes.

Hope Darius likes the shark cupcakes and happy birthday!

Cars cake and cupcakes set...

This is another order from Sheryl where she has previously ordered a Cars cake for her son Ranen's birthday. This time round is for the brother, Rayne's birthday but she still wanted a Cars birthday cake. Check out the previous Cars cake below.

http://jembakes.blogspot.sg/2013/11/lightning-mcqueen-and-mater-cake.html

She also specifically requested for an eggless chocolate cake as Rayne is allergic to eggs. This time round I tried a different design for the cake and it's my first time doing Cars cupcakes.

Final cake and cupcake set.
And what a small world, her son Rayne is actually in the same class as my niece Ulyss. And nice Sheryl took a picture of Ulyss enjoying the birthday cake!

This little girl really loves to eat cake!
Hope Rayne had an enjoyable Cars birthday party!

Another chocolate pig cake...

This is an order from Shanne who wanted to order the cake for her mother-in-law. I have done the same design quite some time back. Check it out if you have not:

http://jembakes.blogspot.sg/2013/07/chocolate-pig-cake.html

This time round the assembling of the kit kat around the cake was much easier (maybe due to the fact that the cake is smaller, or I'm more experienced?) LOL. The kit kat was able to stick to the cake easily and thus the tying of the ribbon was much hassle-free.

The pigs swimming in the mud.

Hope her mummy likes the cake! Happy Birthday!

Piano Rainbow cake...

This is an order from my bf for his sis birthday. He wanted a rainbow cake to give me an opportunity to try it out again after the attempt for my sis's birthday cake. Thanks dear for trusting me with this task!

So learning from the previous experience, this time round mummy and me made thicker layers for each colour. However, it was too thick and the cake is too tall when all the layers are piled up. In the end we had to slice away a bit of each layer to get the right height.

The rainbow cake looking much better and neater than the previous attempt with the thicker layers.

Previous attempt on rainbow cake for sis's birthday
Now that the interior is done, time for the exterior. As his sister is a part time piano teacher, I decided to make her a piano cake.

It's a simple and easy cake. But the real excitement comes when it's time to cut the cake. However, as the cake is placed too long, the sides got very crumpled. The layers of the cake can be visibly seen underneath the thin layer of fondant. As I did not want to apply thick layers of buttercream covering the cake, it seems that it allows the layering to be shown more easily. Another point to note for the next rainbow cake attempt. LOL,

The colourful rainbow!
But I still love how the rainbow colours turn out nicely when the cake is cut. Hope next attempt will be better! And hope bf's sis enjoyed the cake. Happy Birthday!

1st Birthday cake...

I have been doing a lot of birthday cakes for 1st birthdays and you may have realised that I have never done any cake with the number 1 which is quite a default design for 1st birthdays. Simple reason is I have not received any order for it and I just do not have the number 1 shaped baking tin. LOL. So finally, I received this order from Joanne who prefers to have a number 1 shaped cake for her son Valen's 1st birthday. I was thinking between investing on a number 1 shaped cake tin or fixing the number 1 shape with cake pieces. In the end I decided on the latter with the support of Joanne.

So I baked a big square cake and cut it into 2 long pieces and a small slanted piece and fixed it together and tadah the number 1 shape is done!

Joanne wanted all the baby elements such as milk bottles, buttons, safety pins, toy blocks, etc on the cake and cupcakes and so I included them in the design. Really glad the number 1 turned out fine and the covering of the cake with fondant is not as challenging as I thought it would be with the many edges to take care of.

Hope Valen had a wonderful 1st birthday party!
