Despicable me cake and cupcakes...

Another minion order! This time round it is from my sis's bf's aunt who is ordering a birthday cake for her 15 yrs old son. She wanted a small cake as it is just a small birthday celebration within the family.

I found these really cute minions cake toppers while I was in Hanoi last weekend. They have really nice and cheap figurines of all characters and I bought quite a few back for future use. LOL.

Complimentary cupcakes.
Tried the icing image that I bought previously on the cupcakes and they look really nice and neat.

Happy Birthday Yoke Yue!

Harry Potter cake and cupcakes...

This is one order that I'm really excited about as I'm a huge harry potter fan! I've read the books and watched the movie umpteen times and have a huge collection of harry potter related stuffs. Really love how the story goes and the wonders of the magical world. Enough of that and back to the order.

So Lynn wanted to order a set of harry potter cake and cupcakes for her daughter's 1st birthday. Apparently her daughter is named Hermione (maybe because Lynn is a huge fun of harry potter as well?). Anyway, she specifically wanted the following stuffs on the cake - snitch, wand, scarf, hat and specs. Also, she wanted a chocolate coated cake instead of fondant covered. So I tried my hands on it but the finish is not as smooth. Still have to work this out.

The cake looks really cute with the wand and stuffs and it was better than what I have expected. LOL.

The character cupcakes. Can you guess them?
Tried my hands on the character cupcakes as well. But I find it hard to carve out Hermione's face as there is not much special characteristics about her.

Anyway, when I deliver the cake to Lynn's house I saw a lot of wizard's hat and think they will have lots of fun having a wizards and witches party. LOL.

Ninja turtle cake, Lightning Mcqueen cake and Transformer cake...

Cindy ordered 3 cakes for her 2 boys' birthday this month. First up is a Ninja turtle cake for her 6 yrs old son Travis's birthday celebration in school. This is quite an easy and neat cake and it turned out well.

Next up is their birthday celebration at home for the two sons, Travis and Titus. She ordered a transformer cake for the elder son while a lightning mcqueen cake for the younger one. I seriously have no idea how transformer should look like (I'm not a transformer fan and have not watched any of its movie, the closest I ever got in touch with it is the transformer ride that I took in USS). So, I googled it and tadah, here's the cake!

For the lightning mcqueen cake, it was easy as I placed a cake topper on it instead. I was thinking it will be good as a toy for the boy after they finish the cake. LOL.

Thanks Cindy for being so supportive and placing her trust in me to order 3 cakes in one go. Glad all of them turned out well and hope the boys love the cake!

Jembakes does charity again at PMO!

My friend Weiling works at the finance department in PMO and they are having a President Challenge charity drive and she thought of me and wanted to sell cupcakes for charity. Of course I'm more than willing to help and she decided on four designs for her colleagues to choose from - Halloween, Ice-cream, Minions and Hearts and Flowers. The response is good and we receive a total of 100+ cupcakes, similar to the previous Citi charity sale that I did.

So, I started on making the cupcakes and the packaging of it. As usual, the minions cupcakes is the no.1 in popularity! LOL.

Ice cream cupcakes.
So for the ice cream cupcakes, Weiling specify that she wanted real cherries on the cupcakes. So I bought the cherries and biscuits to place on them.

Packaging for 3D cupcakes.

Packaging for 2D cupcakes.

The whole lot of orders.

The 4 different designs.
I'm glad to be able to take part in this charity drive and hope we have contributed in one way or another to help the needy. Thanks Weiling for the chance!

Up theme cake and cupcakes...

An order from Jinny for her daughter's 1st birthday where she is having an Up themed party. So she wanted her birthday cake to have the house and the balloons (if you have watched Up before you should know what I'm talking about).

For the house, I wanted something light which can stand on its own as due to previous experience, the fondant and gumpaste mixture is too heavy and may drag the covered fondant on the cake and create creases on it. So, I cut the shape of a house on cardboard and wrapped it with foil wrap before placing my fondant design on it. I specifically like the sweet pastel colours of the balloons. And I have to mention I found this nice happy birthday candles which fits perfectly on the top of the cake and matches the colourful rainbow well.

Hope Kayanne had a blast at her 1st birthday party!

Dave minion cake...

An order from Shaun for his wife who loves minions. Despicable me minions is really a hot favourite and is currently no.1 in my popular list. LOL. His order is simple and he wants something similar to the previous 2D minion cake that I have done before.

http://jembakes.blogspot.sg/2013/08/minion-2d-cake.html

He requested the cake to look like Dave (the one with the centre parting) as it is his wife's favourite minion. When I asked him if he required any wordings to be placed on the cake, he requested minion language "para tu ti amo" to be placed (I think it is something along the lines of "I love you"). This couple are really very into the movie and are truly minion fans. LOL.

A small 5" cake for the couple.
Hope they like the cake!

Rainbow rose cupcakes...

This is an order from Bi Ru who wanted to order 8 rainbow coloured rose cupcakes. She wanted 6 coloured roses - red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple. This roses have to be done by buttercream icing using piping tools and this is something that I have not mastered well (have been using fondant and gum paste for most of my decorations). I think I have also mentioned before that I do not prefer working with buttercream icing as it is very messy. But this time round I took up the challenge thinking that it should be quite easy to come up with the roses.

But I was wrong, I took a while to find the right tip and technique to swirl the icing and make it look like a rose. I practiced on the practice board numerous times till I found the "right rose". Then the next harder part comes in when I have to mix the colouring into the icing which softens the icing when I added more into it for a darker shade of colour. And when the icing is not of a certain consistency, the rose will not turn out well. Thus, I have to compromise between the shade of colour and the consistency. The hardest part is to pipe the rose on the cupcakes. I actually redo it a lot of times until I'm satisfied with it (not really satisfied, but the best I can do). In the end, these 6 cupcakes really took me quite a while to finish. It looks simple but it is not at all. I must brush up on my piping skills. Hope it did look like a rose to you. LOL.

The final product.
Hope Shi Hui likes the cupcakes! Happy Birthday!
