Monkeys and crocodile cake...

This is an order from Jeremy who wants to celebrate the birthday of the Aug babies with his group of friends for 20 yrs since secondary school (you can roughly guess his age). Anyway, he was going around the theme of being ridiculous and illogical (crap) and there came about this idea of having a crocodile carrying two monkeys on its back. And to add on, the crocodile will be swimming in a pool instead. Ok, this really sounds like a crappy idea but it feels fun and challenging at the same time since the idea is totally out of the box and won't be able to come out from my "logical" mind. So I started out with the molding of the crocodile first.

I wanna bite you!
The body of the crocodile is quite easy to mold but the more tedious part is actually the teeth where I have to stick it on one by one. I left the spikes in the middle empty as the monkeys will sit on the body of the crocodile later on. I thought it looks rather cute and I'm quite happy with it. Next on are the monkeys. I actually went online to search for a tutorial on how to make the monkeys and following the steps, the monkeys are out. Thanks for the tutorial!

Don't the monkeys look cute but a bit retarded?
As Jeremy requested for female monkeys, thus I placed two ribbons on their hair to indicate their gender. And to make them look like best friends, I had their hands placed on each others' shoulders and also one of the monkey's hand on the crocodile's head. And that's it, the main leads of the cake are done!

Next up is the swimming pool which I just covered the cake in blue fondant and then placed white fondant across the side which I drew lines on it to make them look like white tiles. I also placed a ladder at the back of the pool which is blocked by the monkeys. And tadah, the cake is complete!

Monkeys happily sitting on the crocodile.
Best buddies forever!
The cake was a hit at the party and somehow the crocodile became a dinosaur! Oh my! But glad they like it and had fun!

Dinosaur or crocodile?

Doraemon cupcakes...

I'm finally done with all the backlog posts and is able to update all on our latest creation! Firstly, I've decided to work on more flavours for my cakes and cupcakes and have tried out the red velvet recipe. The first try was a bit too sweet and therefore I have perfected the cake by lessening the sugar content in it and is ready to introduce it to all! And the first order came from Linda and she wanted to order Doraemon theme red velvet cupcakes. Previously I've tried handcrafting a 2D image of Doraemon as seen below but I'm not really pleased with it and was thinking of trying a 3D Doraemon instead.

My Melody. Doraemon. Rilakkuma.
Therefore I started searching online and I came upon an online blog which provided a tutorial on how to create 3D Doraemon figures. So I started my molding of the figures based on the tutorial step by step.

Started off by rolling the head, body, hands, legs in propotions.

Then fixing them together.

Then the bell, inserting a spaghetti into the body so that the head can be fixed onto it.

Finally the Doraemons are ready to be placed on the cupcakes.
At first, the heads of the Doraemon were created too small and they look malnourished. In the end I had to forego the small heads and replace them with bigger heads for them to look better and more like Doraemon. The end effect was good and the Doraemon look so cute! Many thanks to the tutorial!

The Doraemon nicely seated on the red velvet cupcakes.

The final set of Doraemon cupcakes.
This is another breakthrough for me as I've introduced a new recipe and changed my style of designing to suit the red velvet cupcakes. I used the cream cheese frosting to cover the cupcakes instead of my usual "preferred" fondant. But the end result looks really good and is different from my previous creation. I'm so motivated to work on more flavours and different styles of designing!

August will be a busy month for me where I have a few orders in place. Do stay tune and look forward to more of my new creations! I'm so excited for it and can't wait to work on those orders soon!

My Melody cupcakes...

This is another order from my friend. Really very grateful for all these supportive friends of mine! This time round, my uni and fyp mate, Josephine, is ordering a set of 21 my melody cupcakes for her little sis, Emily's, 21st birthday. I still remember attending her 21st birthday party in her house "not long ago" and now it is her sis's turn. How time flies! So here's the cupcakes!

My melody and rainbow/butterfly cupcakes.

Happy 21st Emily.
I handcrafted the melody faces therefore on closer look, they may not all look the same. However, I'm very pleased with this set of cupcakes where I think it is my best so far as it looks really neat and tidy and the colour theme matches nicely and is very sweet. I'm glad the sisters love it too!

Hellokitty and Candy Crush cupcakes...

This is another order from my Da Jie. If you have been following my blog or facebook page diligently, you would have realized that my sis have really provided me with a lot of chances to try out new themes and design and for me to gain more experience. Really thankful to her! So this time round is another set of hello kitty cupcakes and also a set of candy crush cupcakes. I have done a few hello kitty related cakes/cupcakes by now and was thinking of having some changes to the design. Therefore, here is the set of hello kitty cupcakes.

For Claire.
I've changed the ribbon on kitty's head to flowers and brushed pink lustre dust on the cupcakes for some glossy and shiny effect. In addition, I took away kitty's black whiskers and imprinted the stripes on the face instead. However, it did not show up very clearly.

For the candy crush cupcakes, as I have previous experience with making the candies, it was quite an easy process in making them again. I brushed the alphabets with purple lustre dust to make it have a glossy and shiny effect too.

For Evonne.
Therefore, the two sets of cupcakes are completed!

Despicable me minion cake...

With the coming out of Despicable Me 2, the craze for the minions start again! From the big minion at the Cathays to the Mac happy meal toy, everybody is crazy over them. I personally loves them too and have watched the movie. I still remember the "gelato" and the "underwear" and stuffs. It was so comical and cute. Therefore, I wanted to try my hands on making some despicable me related cake or cupcakes too. Thankfully, my Da Jie gave me the chance where she wanted to celebrate her friend, Weili's birthday with a despicable me cake. Therefore, I started off with my creation!

Mee doh mee doh mee doh.
To create the height of the minion, I baked two 5" round cake and layered them together. However, without experience in covering cake with such a height, it was quite a mess when I covered it with fondant and the bottom was untidy. Luckily I have the minion working blue suit to cover the untidiness and stuffs. Also, to create a rounded head, I did not level off my cake which had rise unevenly. But then again, because of that, the minion head looks uneven. I shall make it a point to level it off the next time. In addition, I used the silver paint to paint the spectacles of the minion but the silver colour is not very prominent. I shall use the silver spray to get the metallic silver colour next time. All in all, it was quite a successful first attempt but there is still lots of room for improvements where I can already pinpoint a few when I was doing it. But at least it is still recognizable as a minion right? Hahaha.

Happy Birthday Weili! Hope the minion have worked its wonder and help to make your birthday wonderful!

Baby face cake for baby Aiden...

I have always wanted to do some baby-related cakes but till now I have not received any orders for those yet. Therefore, a chance arrived when I'm having a family gathering and my few months old nephew, Aiden, will be there too. So, I decided to make a cake for him to celebrate his arrival into our family.
I want milk!
This is really a very simple and fast cake and I realized making faces with cake is quite an enjoyable task. Look at the cutie pie with the cake!
The cake is bigger than his face!
His mother, Jacqueline, had a hard time posing him for the picture. But nevertheless, we had fun playing with him. He is a very smiley baby who loves to smile. Hope he grows up well and healthy!

Sheep cake...

Our first referral order is here and special thanks to Ni Chen for the referral! Her friend Sarah wanted to order a sheep cake and she decided on a 3D sheep rather than a 2D sheep. Therefore, I created this Shaun the sheep cake.

Shaun the sheep.
Actually I did not know that this sheep has a name. It just happened that when I searched online, most images of this sheep came up. Hahaha. Anyway, I had a hard time making the head of the sheep stick to the body and stay at that angle as the head is too heavy and it tends to tilt awkwardly to one side over time due to the weight. Therefore, I have to stuck something in between the head and the cake to hold on to the angle till the "glue" is dry. After some wait, the head is finally stable and the cake is completed!
