Cars cake and cupcakes set...

This is another order from Sheryl where she has previously ordered a Cars cake for her son Ranen's birthday. This time round is for the brother, Rayne's birthday but she still wanted a Cars birthday cake. Check out the previous Cars cake below.

She also specifically requested for an eggless chocolate cake as Rayne is allergic to eggs. This time round I tried a different design for the cake and it's my first time doing Cars cupcakes.

Final cake and cupcake set.
And what a small world, her son Rayne is actually in the same class as my niece Ulyss. And nice Sheryl took a picture of Ulyss enjoying the birthday cake!

This little girl really loves to eat cake!
Hope Rayne had an enjoyable Cars birthday party!

Another chocolate pig cake...

This is an order from Shanne who wanted to order the cake for her mother-in-law. I have done the same design quite some time back. Check it out if you have not:

This time round the assembling of the kit kat around the cake was much easier (maybe due to the fact that the cake is smaller, or I'm more experienced?) LOL. The kit kat was able to stick to the cake easily and thus the tying of the ribbon was much hassle-free.

The pigs swimming in the mud.

Hope her mummy likes the cake! Happy Birthday!

Piano Rainbow cake...

This is an order from my bf for his sis birthday. He wanted a rainbow cake to give me an opportunity to try it out again after the attempt for my sis's birthday cake. Thanks dear for trusting me with this task!

So learning from the previous experience, this time round mummy and me made thicker layers for each colour. However, it was too thick and the cake is too tall when all the layers are piled up. In the end we had to slice away a bit of each layer to get the right height.

The rainbow cake looking much better and neater than the previous attempt with the thicker layers.

Previous attempt on rainbow cake for sis's birthday
Now that the interior is done, time for the exterior. As his sister is a part time piano teacher, I decided to make her a piano cake.

It's a simple and easy cake. But the real excitement comes when it's time to cut the cake. However, as the cake is placed too long, the sides got very crumpled. The layers of the cake can be visibly seen underneath the thin layer of fondant. As I did not want to apply thick layers of buttercream covering the cake, it seems that it allows the layering to be shown more easily. Another point to note for the next rainbow cake attempt. LOL,

The colourful rainbow!
But I still love how the rainbow colours turn out nicely when the cake is cut. Hope next attempt will be better! And hope bf's sis enjoyed the cake. Happy Birthday!

1st Birthday cake...

I have been doing a lot of birthday cakes for 1st birthdays and you may have realised that I have never done any cake with the number 1 which is quite a default design for 1st birthdays. Simple reason is I have not received any order for it and I just do not have the number 1 shaped baking tin. LOL. So finally, I received this order from Joanne who prefers to have a number 1 shaped cake for her son Valen's 1st birthday. I was thinking between investing on a number 1 shaped cake tin or fixing the number 1 shape with cake pieces. In the end I decided on the latter with the support of Joanne.

So I baked a big square cake and cut it into 2 long pieces and a small slanted piece and fixed it together and tadah the number 1 shape is done!

Joanne wanted all the baby elements such as milk bottles, buttons, safety pins, toy blocks, etc on the cake and cupcakes and so I included them in the design. Really glad the number 1 turned out fine and the covering of the cake with fondant is not as challenging as I thought it would be with the many edges to take care of.

Hope Valen had a wonderful 1st birthday party!

Minnie Mouse cake...

Another order for Minnie Mouse cake and this time round Weiling wants to order the cake for her daughter Kristen's 1st birthday. I realised parents love to use Mickey and Minnie theme for their son or daughter's 1st birthday. LOL. I did a Minnie cake before but as I was not experienced before, there was some minor flaws in the design. Check the last Minnie cake I made below:

http://jembakes.blogspot.sg/2013/09/baby-minnie-cake-and-cupcakes-set.html

However, I did made some improvements when I did my niece Ulyss's birthday cake this year. Check it out below:

http://jembakes.blogspot.sg/2014/02/ulyss-turns-2.html

So this time round, I learnt from my mistakes in the past and also experience from making my niece's Minnie birthday cake, the cake was much neater and easier to do.

Hope Kristen had a wonderful 1st birthday party!

Mixture of Peppa pig, Elmo, Frozen, Hellokitty and Sofia the First cupcakes...

This time round, Regine wants to order cupcakes for her daughter Emma's 4th birthday celebration in school. She named a few characters that she wanted to include in the cupcakes and they are peppa pig, elmo, frozen, hellokitty and sofia the first. I wonder what's with the recent craze of peppa pig but having prior experience in making the cake, I have no worries about this design. As for Frozen, I've previously bought icing image of it and they look very nice. But for Sofia the First, I've not heard of it and therefore have to search again and in the end I bought some decorating rings from Ebay to place on the cupcakes. Therefore, I'm ready to decorate the cupcakes!

The whole set of cupcakes
I've included a girl figurine in the middle to represent Emma as the birthday girl!

Really love the Frozen icing image as I'm a Frozen fan myself. LOL.

Happy Birthday Emma! Hope you like the cupcakes!

Er Jie's birthday surprise!

It's mid year again and how time flies, 6 months have passed! Anyway, it's Er Jie's birthday again. Last year, I made her a Candy Crush as she is a crazy fan of the game (and she is still playing now after a year). LOL. Check out her birthday celebration last year:

http://jembakes.blogspot.sg/2013/07/candy-crush-cake.html

So this year, her sweet bf, Ben, organised a surprise birthday celebration for her at Pasir Ris Costa Sands Chalet to celebrate her last birthday before 30 and before marriage. And as it is a surprise, of course she does not know anything about it. And again, I'm tasked with preparing her birthday cake. At first, I wanted to go with the theme of last 20s and stuff, but I can't really find any ideas on that, instead I decided to make a princessy cake as she is special for the day (only for the day). I also decided to make a mini two-tier cake (4" and 6") as it was a small party for friends and family. Mummy was very adventurous and wanted to try out rainbow cake for a change and a pleasant surprise when sis cuts the cake. I have been receiving enquiries on making rainbow cake which is apparently the "in" thing now. But it is more tedious and more effort is needed in making the cake but still mummy decided to give it a try and see how it goes.

The different layers of the rainbow in making

Rainbow cake done! Love the vibrant colours!
The colours of the rainbow cake is really vibrant but as the layers are baked differently, when put together, they do not match well and I have to cut even the sides. And also we have made the individual layers too thin, resulting in the cake being not tall enough. But still, it is a good first attempt and can't wait to see how it looks like when sis cut the cake! Now it's time for decorations.

The princess cake
Initially I wanted to make a crown on the top of the cake, but it was quite hard to make one, so I placed a crown on it and it fits perfectly (the crown was actually used on my 21st birthday cake and I kept it till now). LOL. Hope sis likes the princess cake decorated just for her! And then the surprise party begins!

Surprise within the cake!

Happy Birthday my dearest Er Jie! Wishing you forever 29! Love you lots!
